still life – dated 1793
Refined oil painting on wood, depicting a bunch of flowers in a glass vase, at the base of which is a beetle. this still life is a “vanitas” as it represents a gnawed leaf, a clear symbol of the transience of life. in the background, a deliberately unfocused vase is painted, on the right of the picture, a trace of signature and the date 1793 can be read. Wood frame gilded in pure gold from the Empire period.
